It isn´t easy to say why we´ve just chosen the North, the Illinois state, the Cavalry and this particular regiment. That´s why we present to you the reasons for founding this regiment.

It isn´t easy to talk briefly about our hobbies. Nevertheless, I try to do so. More or less, each of us had been touched by the turning point which has brought a new era - suddenly a man could wear any clothes he wanted to wear. Some of us have been interested not only in a ´more modern´ America but we´ve also been interested in the American Civil War. We realized that the Czech soldiers had also fought in that conflict and we wanted to know more details about the states and the regiments they had served in. People abroad (Germany, France, UK, Ireland, Italy, etc.) also want to know about their ancestors that were fighting in America. Thanks to this fact there´re history clubs all around the world which want to remind the people their history.

We try to do the same. We want to reconstruct the battles as credible as possible and we submit everything to it. As a matter of course all commands are given in English and the clothes also have their strict rules.

It´s also necessary to know something about behavior of those days. Of course we don´t force anybody to anything but though ´the army´ just for the sake of appereance fighting has it´s strict rules, too. Everyone knows he ´must´ return to his job when the weekend´s over and he wants to be all right. Primarily we want the people to enjoy the events and come the next time again.

We can´t tell you how long we have been interested in these things. Some of us since 1994, some of us not so long. 9th Illinois Cavalry Regiment was founded on March 20, 2001. It isn´t too old, is it? Nevertheless, we are no greenhorns. We started the hobby within 8th Iowa Cavalry Regiment.

It isn´t easy to describe all the things that are waiting for you in our regiment. Our newspaper - The Cavalry Times - can be a little help for you. It maps our activities.
